Introducing Our New Baklava Pancakes at Drury 188-189

Drury Baklava Pancakes

You asked – we listened! We are happy to announce the launch of our signature Baklava Pancakes, now available in Drury 188-189 Covent Garden. Our very own signature recipe, the first-ever baklava-inspired pancakes in the UK, is here to make your brunch experience that much more special! This original recipe was developed by our talented team at our Woodberry Down Drury N4 branch, and now these heavenly pancakes have finally made their way to Drury 188-189 Covent Garden.

So, what makes these pancakes so special? Made fresh right here in-house by our chefs, these stacks of fluffy, golden brown pancakes are then layered with delicious homemade pistachio whipped cream. They are then topped with a generous amount of filo flakes, and sprinkled with crunchy pistachio kernels. The dish is then finished with a drizzle of smooth, creamy pistachio sauce. Delicious! Everything you love in a flavourful classic baklava, combined with the fluffiness of pancakes.

Amazing news for Drury family as Drury 188-189 has now been rated the best cafe in London, and of course best cafe in Covent Garden area on TripAdvisor. We opened Drury 188-189 in December 2016, our vision was simple: to create a space where people could relax, disconnect, and enjoy the small, meaningful moments in life. Now, nearly eight years later, we’re filled with gratitude as we reflect on how much we’ve grown, thanks to you—our amazing customers.

Why Drury 188-189 is the Best Cafe in London

Our journey began with a strong foundation of friendship and passion. We, Ali and Cemal, left behind our careers in security and education to follow our dream of creating a cafe that was more than just a spot to get a coffee. We envisioned a welcoming space where people could feel at home, savour delicious food, and truly connect with each other. From the very beginning, our goal was to craft a cafe experience that stood out among the countless options in London.

What sets Drury 188-189 apart is our commitment to creating genuine connections and moments. We intentionally chose not to offer WiFi, encouraging our guests to engage with each other and their surroundings. We also curated a selection of books that you can borrow whilst enjoying the ambience and a great cup of coffee.

6500 meals delivered to the NHS

Drury 188-189 Founders

Cemal + Ali, we are two Kurdish best friends born in Turkey and have lived in Hackney (East London) our whole lives, we launched 215Hackney Cafe/Restaurant serving Middle Eastern Food from Isreal, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Kurdistan. We decided to partner with WarChild UK to support children affected by wars from all around the world and donate 20% of our profits.

As of 17th March, we decided to shut our doors to help fight the Corona Virus spread in line with the Government’s Strategy, us shutting our doors does not mean we need to sit back and wait for the Government alone to tackle the issue – we as citizens of London need to stand by each other and do whatever we can to support any institutions directly fighting the pandemic. Where we all need to stay inside to protect ourselves and also our loved ones who are within the high-risk category – we strongly believe some of us need to support and protect the amazing humans risking their lives to save ours.

We are now looking to raise money to support the courageous + amazing NHS front line staff who are and will be working tirelessly around the clock to take care of anyone who falls ill from the Corona Virus Pandemic.

All funds raised will be used to pay for food, supplies and staff who will be cooking and delivering the food to Local Hospitals such as Homerton, Whipps Cross, Royal Free and North Middlesex – we will deliver food to any hospital staff in need of food to either eat during working hours or take home after a long hard shift taking care of patients and risking their own health/lives.

The team at 215Hackney has decided to use our resources and abilities to support the NHS staff through this historically difficult time.

As an independent business we value the common morals of helping the local community. We’re in this together and now is the time we all unite and show solidarity.

We will be providing constant updates regarding progress and our efforts to support the NHS Front Line Staff – if anyone wants to reach out to us directly and knows any hospitals or people in need please do not hesitate to email me directly at cemal@215hackney.co.uk.

This moment shall not break us but will only bring us closer.
